NON-TRADITIONAL EDUCATIONAL SERVICES  
 COMPUTER-BASED INSTRUCTION (CBI)
FOR GENERAL EDUCATION AND SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS INVOLVED IN OSMAP/SCHOOL BOARD PROCEEDINGS
 
General Education Students and Special Education Students
 
Some general education students who have been placed out of school pending final outcome of disciplinary proceedings through OSMAP and/or the School Board are eligible to receive non-traditional educational services through the Computer-Based Instruction Program. Students with egregious offenses may not be offered the opportunity to participate in this program.
 
Special education students who have been placed out of school pending final outcome of disciplinary proceedings through OSMAP and/or the School Board are also eligible to receive non-traditional educational services through the Computer-Based Instruction Program as identified by the IEP Team. If the final outcome results in long-term suspension or expulsion, educational services shall continue through the Computer-Based Instruction Program.
 
Program Components
 
1.         Student goals
a.      To allow the student to continue to receive educational services in content areas. The IEP Team will identify the goals for those special education students.
b.      To allow the student to maintain and/or improve academic performance.
c.       To enable students to effectively transition into the traditional classroom setting once the discipline period has concluded.
 
2.         Parental involvement
a.      Parents shall work with staff to discuss expectations and the parents’ role in working with the staff to ensure student success.
b.      For special education students, parents shall be involved in the IEP Team placement meeting and understand the goals established for the student.

3.         Instruction
a.      Instruction shall be provided through digital on-line instruction.     
b.     
Highly-qualified staff, as identified above, shall serve as resource teachers and facilitators and shall also provide direct instruction.
 
4.         Behavioral expectations/discipline
a.      Each student shall receive, understand, and sign a strict code of behavior contract agreeing to follow the conditions as set forth in Prince William County Public Schools “Code of Behavior,” in the OSMAP/School Board decision letter, and by the night school administration.
b.      If the conditions are not fulfilled, the student may be subject to further disciplinary action and a change in placement.
 
5.   Program evaluation
The Office of Assessment shall conduct a formal program evaluation for    
      various aspects of the Computer-Based Instruction Program including, but
      not limited to, the following: student achievement; behavioral progress;
      successful completion of the program; and successful transition to the base
      school.

6.   Support services
       Students will receive academic and behavioral support which are designed to assist the student in transitioning to and from the CBI program
